Hawker 4000

Hawker 4000 VIP Transport JetThe Hawker 4000 is a super mid-size private jet built by Hawker Beechcraft.  In 1996 Hawker announced its  program to develop a business jet with a larger cabin and greater range than the Hawker 1000.  The clean sheet design took over ten years to achieve launch and certification.  The first aircraft were delivered in 2008.  This was about the same time that the Hawker 900XP was certificated.  The 900XP is a  slightly smaller, mid-size aircraft developed to replace the Hawker 800.

The “clean sheet” design of the Hawker 4000 features a carbon composite fuselage and an all new supercritical wing architecture.  Not only did this deliver outstanding speed, efficiency, range and responsiveness for pilots and operators, but passengers enjoy a smooth and exceptionally quiet flight with all the comfort and amenities of a large cabin jet.

The carbon composite fuselage enabled the Hawker 4000 to achieve its design goal of having the smallest possible fuselage and the largest usable cabin space coupled with the lowest drag.  These composites are much lighter yet stronger than aluminum and consequently, the fuselage is 20 percent lighter and interior volume is 15 percent larger than comparable aluminum structures.  Additionally, the fuselage and wing design is such that extra space in the wing permits all fuel to be carried in the wings.

The Hawker 4000 cabin was the starting point for the new 4000 and the result rivals the comfort and size of much larger jets.   The cabin has a flat floor and six-foot headroom so passengers can move about with ease and is equipped with all the amenities for a productive office (or a relaxing living room) while cruising at 45,000 feet.  One especially nice development for passengers is the repositioned baggage compartment.  Any baggage that required in flight access had to be carried on through the cabin door and space was limited.  In the new design,  crew can load baggage through a rear hatch and passengers can access it in flight through a door behind the lavatory. This type of amenity has previously been available only in large jets.

Late in 2012 Hawker Beechcraft underwent Chapter 11 protection and it emerged from restructuring in February 2013.  It emerged as the third largest business aircraft manufacturer by deliveries and actually took more orders during that period than any other time in its past three years.  The company has been rebranded Beechcraft and it no longer produces Hawker brand jets but the company will maintain a very strong position in the business jet market. Its Global Customer Support fully supports the fleet of over 2,200 Hawker business jets in service worldwide including Hawker 400, Hawker 800 and Hawker 900 series, Hawker 4000, Premier I and Premier IA.
