The Hawker 1000 is a twin engined super mid-size jet built by Hawker Beechcraft. The Hawker 1000, and other members of the Hawker jet series are descendants of the HS-125 originally developed and built by British Aerospace (BA) and flown in 1962. The 1000 was the largest member of the series of corporate jets. In 1993 Raytheon purchased BA’s Corporate jet division and to align their business jets with the Hawker brand, the HS-125-series became the Hawker series.
In 1983 BA began to develop the HS-125-800 to replace the earlier 700 model. The 800 was hugely successful however consumer feedback prompted the company to initiate another development program in the 1990’s to develop a jet with greater range, the 1000. By 1993, the Hawker 800 was the main competitor for the Hawker 1000 and most operators were still opting for the shorter range 800 over the 1000. The decision was made to cease production of the Hawker 1000 with only 51 aircraft delivered when the last was produced in 1997. The Hawker 800 series, specifically the Hawker 800XPR, remains Hawker’s current offering in the mid-size to super-mid-size category.
At the time of its production the Hawker 1000 was considered ahead of it’s time in its design, accommodations, and use of technology. The aircraft flies faster, uses less fuel, has a greater takeoff weight, and achieves greater range than the 800, and it remains one of the most efficient aircraft in its class.
The Hawker 1000 is powered by PW305B turbofans engines which were the first generation to incorporate full FADEC control. Full-authority digital engine controls (FADEC) automatically control all aspects of aircraft engine performance. This development reduces pilot fatigue and improves safety, engine performance and fuel efficiency. The FADEC is the primary reason for the 1000’s improved efficiency and range over the 800. The aircraft has numerous other redundant systems in the cockpit and cabin, more than many aircraft in its category today.
The passenger cabin stretches over 24 feet and features more windows, and more space than the 800 but the seating capacity remains at eight in its standard business jet floor plan. This gives passengers more room to move about, relax, or work during the flight. Although cabin technology has changed since 1997, upgrades and refurbs are popular so the latest amenities and entertainment options are incorporated.
The Hawker 1000 without a doubt remains an economic and well-appointed mid-size private jet that delivers great long range performance.
