Cessna Citation CJ3
The Cessna Citation CJ3 is a twin turbofan light business jet in the Cessna CitationJet family. The original Model 525 CitationJet was launched in 1889 and was the platform for the CJ family of light corporate jets which include the CJ1, CJ2, CJ3, CJ4 models and their variants.
In 1998 the popular CJ2 jet was introduced and by 2002 Cessna had announced a stretch version, the CJ3. This redesign was the seventh in the growing family with each iteration touting lower operating costs and higher performance.
As with previous upgrades in the CitationJet series, Cessna succeeded again in increasing the payload capacity of the CJ3 compared to the CJ2 without compromising range and speed. Indeed, with its more powerful, efficient FJ44-3A turbofan engines, the CJ3 is faster and has greater range than the CJ2 despite its additional weight. On the CJ3, the cabin was stretched another two feet over the CJ2, and the wingspan increased three feet. The NASA engineered natural laminar flow wing design was first introduced on the CJ1 and serves to improved lift to drag characteristic over earlier Citation models. The CJ3 (as with all CitationJet models) also features the trailing link landing gear which was introduced first in the Citation Bravo. This ensures soft landings and smooth taxiing and soft landings.
The CJ3 features the same avionics as CJ1 and CJ2; a simple yet proven and reliable suite that is rated by professionals as best in the industry. Additionally, the FJ44-3A is the first engine of its kind to come with full-authority digital engine controls (FADEC) to automatically control all aspects of aircraft engine performance. This development reduces pilot fatigue and improves safety, engine performance and fuel efficiency.
The more spacious cabin with executive recliners and added standard features ensure that every passenger can work or relax in total comfort. Cessna started the CJ3 with everything that has made the CitationJet series a favorite and then took the concept bigger, faster and, farther than ever before. And in 2011, it was selected by Robb Report as “Best of the Best Business Aircraft” in its class.
