The Challenger 605 is the latest addition to the Challenger 600 Series of large cabin transcontinental jets produced by Bombardier. It is the fourth generation of aircraft in the highly successful series of large business jets initially developed in the mid 1970’s. Each of the family members traces their roots to the original Challenger 600 and as each successor was developed the incorporated changes offered greater range, capacities, and the latest amenities while preserving the spacious cabin for which the 600 series is renown.
Bombardier Aerospace unveiled the Challenger 605 in 2005 and first production deliveries were made in early 2006. The 605 features the same engines and wings as the Challenger 604 but the designers incorporated additional fuel tanks and relocated existing ones to provide more efficient weight distribution for better fuel economy for long legs. The primary focus when developing the Challenger 605 was to bring cabin amenities and avionics to a new level of luxury and performance.
Bombardier chose to preserve the spacious cabin with its luxurious amenities while incorporating larger, higher positioned windows for more natural light and better viewing. The improved cabin management system ethernet-based and includes an airborne office suite with high speed data and voice, eight speakers, multiple 18 or 21in LCD monitors, DVD/CD players, connectivity for all manner of carry-on devices such as iPods, satellite communications system, and much more.
When choosing to upgrade the cockpit, Bombardier followed pilot and operator feedback and equipped the aircraft with the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 suite. The Pro Line 21 offers an improved pilot interface over a four-screen display, having fewer control panels distributed over a larger area.
As described in Robb Report, the Challenger 605 maintains all the praised features of its predecessor, while adding innovation and performance capabilities. The Challenger 605 is a valuable asset for corporate clients and the ultimate private jet experience for all passengers.
